This is one of the very rare books of Voyages. The present copy has the Map and Plan of the Town of Fayal which seldom occur. The Portrait of the Earl of Cumberland by Vaughan added to this copy is a very rare print from the Basiliologia which sold in 1816 at the Delabere sale for thirteen guineas." MS. note.

The Countess of Montgomerie was Lady Susan Vere daughter of Edward Earl of Oxford, by Anne Cecil, eldest daughter of Lord Burleigh. Lady Susan Vere was married in 1604 to Philip Herbert, brother to the Earl of Pembroke: this Philip was created Earl of Montgomerie by James I. in 1605 he succeeded his brother in the Earldom of Pembroke in 1630, and married

in that year Anne Countess of Dorset for his second wife; he died in 1649. Lodge, III. 238. 254. 259. 286. Another book bears
