Any parts of this work are of rare occurrence of the eleven books complete, I have heard only of two copies besides my own; one belonged to Mr. Heber, the other did belong to Mr. Bindley, but 1 purchased it at his sale, because it contains a few variations from mine. No library that I know of contains both the editions which I possess. Concerning Vitus, see Saxius, III. p. 439. Foppens, II. 1072. Niceron, XXIV. p. 90. Pitseus, p. 806. Herbert quotes the subsequent editions by Berthelet, s. a. and again 1559, by Wykes 1568, and Purfoot, 1572, but there appears no trace of this any where." MS. note. This is the second and improved edition: the first was printed in 16mo. Norenburch, 1546. Watts in his Bibliotheca has made an error in quoting an edition

of 1535, none such being hitherto known, though in Foxe's Martyrs vol. II. it appears that in 1521 in the diocese of Lincoln only, 500 men and women were convicted, among similar crimes, of reading Wicklif's Wicket, there must therefore have been earlier English editions of this work than those quoted in Ames."
