FIRST EDITION. PRINTED UPON VELLUM. This very beautiful copy is quite complete, with the original Table.

"An allegorical poem of knight-errantry executed by Melchior Pfinzing, but appointed and projected by the hero of the work himself, the subject matter of which is the adventures, which the German Emperor Maximilian I. had to undergo before he could succeed in the possession of the beautiful and wealthy Maria of Burgundy. It is not the poetical execution of the subject, which gives any interest to the

work (as it is flat and cold), but partly the chivalrous tendency of the poem, and partly the peculiar typography and embellishments in the first two editions, which

alone are of value to collectors." Ebert, p. 1884, followed by a dissertation on the wood cuts.

This is a Large Paper copy of the Edition of 1663, 1664, 1666, and 1672, with additions from that of 1696; it contains all that is described by Camus except a

17th page of the Spanish fragment,-six leaves of Appendix to Hist. de Mogul-and ten leaves from p. 48 to Asganii Sassanii, which three articles were also wanting in Huet's copy, though they are found in that of the Corps Legislatif at Paris, at the end. This copy however has in Vol. I. at

p. 50 of the Voyage de Bouteko, a Map with Variations not noticed by Camus.

In Vol. 3, after the Voyage des Ambassadeurs is an additional set of plates "à contre-epreuve" to shew the great superiority of the plates in the Original Edition.

At the end of this 3rd vol. is " Explication de la Carte d'Telmer" never seen by Camus but once, and not in any other copy of Thevenot, see Camus, p. 283.
