This is the first edition and rare, but the second edition of 1614 has some additions. Bouterweck is very copious in praise of this author, whom he calls the Theocritus of Portugal.

It was bought by Mr. Singer for Lord Blandford at Col. Stanley's Sale. It sometimes occurs without the dictionary, but very rarely with it.

"This old French author is better known by his celebrated Romance of Petit Jehan de Saintré. Born in 1398, he became governor to the sons of Louis III. King of Sicily and Comte d'Anjou; to the eldest of them he dedicates this miscellaneous Collection, which he calls la Salade. He resided some time in the Court of Philippe le Bon, and is supposed to have assisted in composing Les Cent Nouvelles Nouvelles for the Dauphin (Louis XI.) the 50th Tale has his name. La Sale died about 1462." MS. note.
