In Strype and in the Biog. Brit. this book is quoted as having given great alarm to Henry VIII. tho' the Cardinal promised him not to publish it. Latimer preached against it, Cranmer was ordered to answer it, and Henry having failed in inveigling Pole into England, offered Fifty thousand crowns for his head and the Pope gave the Cardinal guards at Rome to secure him from danger. Lord Oxford could never obtain a copy. Having been suppressed by the author, this edition is rare.

This is the only copy known on Large Paper.
