"This is a fine copy of a very rare book attributed to the press of Guttenburg of Mayence, the characters being the same with those of the Catholicon of 1460. There is as much difference of opinion as to the date of this book as can arise upon a question on which there is so little evidence.

First Edition. This is the original Edition of the celebrated voyages of Magellan, from whom the Streights so called derive their name. The author of this Epistle was a relation of Christopher Haro, the friend and companion of Magellan in this voyage. "Frater mei soceri." The Voyage commenced in Aug. 1519, and ended Sept. 1522.

This curious work is dedicated to Philip Earl of Arundel. In it mention is made of Romeo and Juliet, an additional proof of the popularity of the story in England long before the appearance of Shakspeare's play which is supposed to have been written in 1596. Haslewood gives a very interesting account of this work in Brydges's Brit. Bibl. vol. 2. p. 438 to 447.

This account of the celebrated Countess Matilda is composed chiefly from a curious MS. tract, written by Donizzoni in Latin verse, who was cotemporary with Matilda. The last leaf of this rare book has on the reverse a print of the gran Contessa, taken from an illumination belonging to the MS. of Donizzoni. This most valuable MS. is now in the Collection of Sir T. Phillipps.
