MARTIN, GREGORY. MARTIN MARPRELATE, Ju

nior The iust censure and reproofe of Martin junior. Wherein the rash and vndiscreete headines of the foolish youth, is sharply mette with, and the boy hath his lesson taught him, I warrant you, by his reuerend and elder brother, Martin Senior, sonne

and heire vnto the renowned Mar

tin-Mar-prelate the Great. Where also, least the springall shold be utterly discouraged in his good meaning, you shall finde, that hee is not bereaved of his due commendations. No place or date. 8vo.

Collier in his Ecclesiastical History, vol. II. p. 606, attributes the various libels under the name of Marprelate to a Junto of four persons, Penn, Throgmorton, Udal and Fenner: this is one of the rarest. Herbert's Ames, III. p. 1692.

"This copy is very much to be valued on account of its containing detached heads by Elstracke, which are almost always found on the printed Text. No complete copy of the Basiliologia is now to be found except at Paris.

This first edition of Martyn ends with the reign of Henry VIII. A second edition was printed in 1638, continued on to the death of Queen Elizabeth; but the plates of that edition are much worn." MS. note.

"This is a book of great rarity, being the first edition of any of the Poems of Flaminius he being then only 22 years old, as he tells Ludovicus Speranzia, to whom he dedicates them. Flaminius at the same time likewise edited for the first edition the Nænia of Marullus, which he dedicates to A. P. Bocchius. This is the only copy that I have found in many years." MS. note.
