Collation. The Title Page is followed by a dedication to Charles, Lord Montjoy, by Jervis Markham. The next three leaves contain three Sonnets on the recto of each to Robert, Earle of Sussex; Wriothesley, Earle of Southampton and to Sir Edward Wingfield: the reverse of each leaf is blank. The argument of the whole Tragedie occupies the two next leaves. Faults escaped in printing, one leaf. Verses addressed "To the fayrest," 3 leaves. The Tragedie begins on B. 4. to G. in eights and concludes on the recto of G. seven with the words Finis o utinam. In the whole 55 leaves.

The only other copy that is known of this rare poem by Markham is one formerly belonging to Mr. T. Warton, given by his brother (who inherited it) to Mr. Malone with whose library it is now become the property of the University of Oxford. See Oldys's Life of Raleigh p. CLXXVII. Warton's History of Eng. Poetry, III. 319.

This history is highly esteemed, and deservedly so in Spain, and has been reprinted in 4to. 1797, " por la rarezza de sus exemplares." The author served as Commissary in the royal army in Grenada. It is a strange mistake in the accurate N. Antonio, who in his Bibl. Nov. II. 49, supposes this to be the third vol. of Marmol's Africa, with which it has no manner

of connection, and Meuselius, VI. i. 297,

has adopted nearly the same error in calling this the fourth volume of Marmol's Africa. The new edition, Madrid, 1797, is the reprint of this, with the addition of an Index, and a plan of the city of Grenada.
