XV. Sanctified AFFLICTIONS.

Deut. viii. 5. As a man chafteneth his fon, fo the LORD thy GOD chafteneth thee.

Fob xxxvi. 8. And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction ;

Ver. 9. Then he fheweth them their work, and their tranfgreffions, that they have exceeded.

Ver. 10. He openeth alfo their ear to difcipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

Job v. 17. Happy is the man whom GOD correcteth; therefore defpife not thou the chaftening of the Almighty.

Ver. 18. For he maketh fore, and bindeth up: He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

P. xciv. 12 Bleffed is the man whom thou chasteneft, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law.

Ver. 12. Bleffed is the man that endureth temptation: For when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the LORD hath promised to them that love him.

XVI. GRACE to the CHILDREN of BELIEVERS.

Gen. xvii. 7. I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy feed after thee, in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a GOD unto thee, and to thy feed after thee.

Ver. 9. Thou fhalt keep my covenant therefore thou, and thy feed after thee, in their generations.

Deut. xxx. 6. And the LORD thy GOD will circumcife thine heart, and the heart of thy feed, to love the LORD thy GOD with all thine heart, and with all thy foul, that thou mayeft live.

Ifa. xliv. 3. I will pour my Spirit upon thy feed, and my bleffing upon thy offspring,

Ver. 4. And they fhall fpring up as among the grafs, as willows by the water courfes.

Lev. xxvi. 12.

Gen. xvii. 7. I will establish my covenant-to be a GOD unto thee.

And I will walk among you, and will be your GOD, and ye fhall be my people.

Pf. xlviii. 14. This God is our God for ever and ever he will be our guide, even unto death.

I. xli. 10. Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed, for I am thy GOD.

Ezek. xxxiv. 24. I the LORD will be their God, and my fervant David a prince among them. Ver. 31. Ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are. men, and I am your God, faith the LORD.

God himself fhall be with them, and

God is not afhamed to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a city.
