Blessings upon a Good Man.

And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteousin the fruit of thy body. Deut. xxx. 9.

Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

Job v. 25.

The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

Psalm cxv. 14.

XII.-A Blessing upon all a Good Man has.

And ye shall serve the Lord your God; and He shall bless thy bread and thy water. Ex. xxiii. 25. And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the Lord thy God hath given unto thee and unto thine house. Deut. xxvi. II.

Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

The

Lord shall command a blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto: and He shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Deut. xxviii. 3-6, 8. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. Psalm xxxvii. 16. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it. Prov. x. 22. the Lord, than Prov. xv. 16. and drink, and

Better is a little with the fear of great treasure and trouble therewith.

Also that every man should eat enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Eccles. iii. 13.

God giveth to a man that is good in His sight wisdom and knowledge and joy: but to the sinner He giveth travail to gather and to heap up, that He may give to him that is good before God. Ecc. ii. 26.

Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart. Eccles. v. 19, 20.

XIII-A Blessing upon the Children of the Good.

Thou shalt keep His statutes--that it may go well with thee and with thy children after thee. (Deut. v. 29.) Deut. iv. 40.

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Prov. xiii. 22.

In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence; and His children shall have a place of refuge. Pr. xiv. 26. The seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

Prov. xi. 21. The just man walketh in his integrity, his children are blessed after him. Prov. xx. 7. The children of Thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before Thee.

Psalm cii. 28.

His seed shall be mighty upon earth, the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

His seed shall inherit the earth.

Psalm cxii. 2.

Psalm xxv. 13.

I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Psalm xxxvii. 25, 26.

The Families of the Good.

He hath blessed thy children within thee.

Psalm cxlvii. 13.

I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them. Jer. xxxii. 39.

XIV.-A Blessing upon the Families of the Good.

Thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin. Job v. 24.

If thou wert pure and upright, surely now He would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous: though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

Job viii. 6, 7.

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine, by the sides of thine house; thy children like olive-plants, round about thy table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion; and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem, all the days of thy life; yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. Psalm cxxviii. 3-6. He blesseth the habitation of the just. Pr. iii. 33. The house of the righteous shall stand.

Prov. xii. 7.

The tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

CHAPTER II.

Promises Relating to the Troubles of Life.

1.-In General.

Of Preservation from Trouble.-He shall deliver thee in six troubles, yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. Job v. 19. The Lord preserveth the faithful. Psalm xxxi. 23.. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto Thee, in a time when Thou mayest be found. Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou art my hiding-place, Thou shalt preserve me from trouble, Thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Psalm xxxii. 6, 7. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Psalm xci. 10.

There shall no evil happen to the just. Pr. xii. 21. The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns; but the way of the righteous is made plain. Prov. xv. 19.

Deliverance out of Trouble.-Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will He help the evil doers. Till He fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. Job viii. 20, 21.

Thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away. Job xi. 16.

Even so would He have removed thee out of the strait, into a broad place where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness. Job xxxvi. 16.

Deliverance out of Trouble.

His anger endureth but for a moment, in His favour is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm xxx. 5.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. Psa. xxxiv. 19. Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my coun tenance, and my God. Psalm xlii. II.

Though ye have lain among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold. Psalm lxviii. 13.

Thou, which hast showed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again; and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Ps. lxxi. 20.

Thou wilt save the afflicted people, but wilt bring down high looks. For Thou wilt light my candle, the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalm xviii. 27, 28.

The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind, the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down. Psalm cxlvi. 8. They cry unto the Lord in their trouble; He saveth them out of their distresses. Psalm cvii. 19. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Psalm cxxvi. 5, 6.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead. Prov. xi. 8.

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips; but the just shall come out of trouble.

Prov. xii. 13.

A just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.

Prov. xxiv. 16.
