use you and persecute you. Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing.

(w) If ye do good to them that do good to you, what thank have ye? For sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? For sin-ners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But do ye good and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the highest. For he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

() If thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head; and the Lord shall reward thee.

(y) If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.

(%) If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldst forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

(a) Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth : Neither lift up thy self when evil bath found him : nor suffer thy mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul.

In forgiving Injuries.

(c) Put on (as the elect of God, holy and beloved) bowels of mercies, kindness, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any ; even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. (d) Be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another; even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

(e) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath. For it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.

(f) Recompence to no man evil for evil; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

(g) Say not thou, I will recompence evil; I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work: But wait on the Lord, and he will save thee.

(b) Charity is not easily provoked; charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity beareth all things, endureth all things.

(i) The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

(k) If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him: And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive me.

Pure

(t) Pure religion is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.

(u) Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

(w) Deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor.

(x) If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; ifthou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? And shall not he render to every man according to his works?

(y) Thou shalt not vex a stranger; nor afflict any widow or fatherless child.

(*) Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling-block before the blind.

shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him; because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

(e) Deal thy bread to the hungry, and bring the poor that are cast out to thy house; when thou seest the naked, cover him; and hide not thy self from thine own flesh. Then shall thy light break forth, as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily.
