11 PARLIAMENTARY REGISTER.

The debates from 1768 to 1774 were not published, strangers having been excluded from the gallery of the House of Commons during that period. "The public were thereby deprived of many of those splendid orations of Burke, to which the traditions of the house ascribe such marvellous power, and many other speeches illustrating the feelings and opinions that preceded the war of the American Revolution." The short-hand notes, taken by Sir William Cavendish during the whole of this time, having been lately discovered are about being published by J. Wright. See Athenæum, June 6, 1840 p. 458. A volume was printed in 1839.
