We regret exceedingly to report that Nos. 17, 44, 48, 71 and 94 have apparently lain dormant during the interim of Grand Chapter, they reporting no work done whatever. The High Priests should be labored with, and an effort made to infuse new life into each of these Chapters. We are pleased to learn from the Grand Secretary that the major

portion of the Subordinates complied with his request and forwarded their returns prior to January 10th. Had they all been received it would have enabled the Grand Secretary to have closed his books before the convocation, and thus assisted the Finance Committee considerable in their labors.

We feel that it is only necessary to call the attention of High Priests to this matter, to have it carefully and efficiently complied with. All of which is respectfully submitted.

WM. DUNHAM,

JAMES H. CUMMINS,
RUFUS C. HATHEWAY,

Committee.

REPORT OF GRAND SECRETARY.

The Grand Secretary presented the following report, which, on motion of Comp. RUTHERFORD, was accepted and adopted: To the M. E. Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Michigan: COMPANIONS:-The year is past and gone; new duties are upon us. At this time it becomes my duty and pleasure to submit a synopsis of my doings as your Grand Secretary.

PROCEEDINGS.

The proceedings of our last annual Convocation were printed and distributed in April last, and not hearing to the contrary, I have reason to believe the distribution was efficiently made.

GENERAL GRAND CHAPTER DUES.

The Grand Dues to General Grand Chapter were forwarded in due time to General Grand Secretary Fox, and the receipt thereof duly acknowledged.

THANKS.

I again return my thanks to the High Priests and Secretaries of Subordinate Chapters for their prompt attention to correspondence, and their cheerfulness in assisting me when called upon on matters pertaining to the Royal Craft.

INCREASE OF WORK.

From the returns made by Subordinate Chapters, I rejoice to be able to report a steady increase of work the past year.

PRESENTATION OF JEWEL.

Under Companion DUNHAM's resolution (see page 53, proceedings 1880) I took steps to procure for Companion DAVID C. SPAULDING, a Past Grand High Priest's Jewel. In due time it was completed and presented, by me, on your behalf, with expressions of the esteem entertained for him by this Grand Chapter, and with fervent wishes for his future prosperity. Comp. SPAULDING, in a most fit and proper manner, acknowledged his thanks to this Grand Chapter for the elegant reminder of their friendship and esteem, and requested me to convey to you his deep sense of gratitude and the assurance, on his part, that the gift would ever be highly prized, and that his best endeavors would be made to wear the same with honor both to himself and the Craft.

GRAND CHAPTER LIBRARY.

I can report but little progress made this year in the way of additions to the Grand Chapter Library, owing to the increased difficulty in obtaining exchanges, but I will continue to devote all the necessary time to this work of labor and love. Every day adds to the value of a Masonic Library, and therefore the more reason we should accomplish our object and become the possessors of a Library of which we may all be proud.

Respectfully submitted.

WM. P. INNES,

Grand Secretary.

ACCOUNTS.

The Grand Treasurer and Grand Secretary presented their financial reports, which were accepted and referred to the Finance Committee.

MASONIC RECORD.

Comp. Rev. F. A. BLADES offered the following resolution : Resolved, That the Grand Secretary be directed to prepare a ledger for a Record of the Masonic life of every member of the Royal Craft in the State, in which Record provision shall be made for the time and place in which the member has received the several degrees of Masonry.

Upon motion of Comp. L. G. RUTHERFORD, the resolution was referred to a special committee of three.
