July 7th.

Hymn 698.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. -Ephesians iv. 31.

"Humble, and teachable, and mild,
O may I, as a little child,

My lowly master's steps pursue!

Be anger to my soul unknown!
Hate, envy, jealousy, be gone;

In love create thou all things new."

As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. -Sol. Songs ii. 5.

"How pleasant and sweet, In his name when we meet,

July 9th.

And Esau said unto his Father, Hast thou but one blessing, my Father? bless me, even me also, O my Father. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.Gen. xxvii. 38.

"Pronounce the glad word, And bid us be free; Ah! hast thou not, Lord, A blessing for me? The peace thou hast given, This moment impart, And open thy heaven, O Love, in my heart." Hymn 481.

July 10th.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.—2 Tim. i. 7.

"Saved from the fear of hell and death,
With joy we seek the things above;
And all thy saints the spirit breathe
Of power, sobriety, and love."-Hymn 419.

July 11th.

And he took his staff in his hand and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand and he drew near to the Philistine.-1 Sam. xvii. 40.

"With my sling and stone I go

To fight the Philistine;
God hath said it shall be so,

And I shall conquer sin :

On his promise I rely,

Trust in an Almighty Lord;

Sure to win the victory,

For he hath spoke the word."

July 12th.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world-James i, 27.

"Thy mind throughout my life be shown,
While list'ning to the wretch's cry,
The widow's and the orphan's groan,
On mercy's wings I swiftly fly,
The poor and helpless to relieve,
My life, my all, for them to give."

July 13th.

Hymn 364.

I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.-Hosea xiv. 4.

"Jesus, Friend of sinners, hear,
Yet once again I pray :

From my debt of sin set clear,
For I have nought to pay:
Speak, O speak, the kind release,

A poor backsliding soul restore;

Love me freely, seal my peace,

And bid me sin no more."-Hymn 110.

July 14th.

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.-2 Timothy iii. 5.

"Oft did I with the' assembly join,

And near thine altar drew;

A form of godliness was mine,

The power I never knew."-Hymn 91.

July 15th.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou are with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.-Psalm xxiii. 4.

"Fearless of hell and ghastly death,
I'd break through every foe;

The wings of love, and arms of faith,
Would bear me conqu'ror through."

July 16th.

Hymn 213.

Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more.-Rev. iii. 12.
