THE

DLES

PREFACE.

During the daily reading of the Scriptures, and the frequent use of the Hymn Book as a Wesleyan Minister, it occurred to the gatherer of these portions of Manna that the present little Book might arrest the attention, and improve the hearts of the junior members of Wesleyan families, as its Scripture Texts are accompanied with appropriate verses, selected wholly from that incomparable collection of Hymns, which is used by the Wesleyan Methodists in the public worship of Almighty God.

Nor will it be unfitted for the chamber of the sick, where the reading of the Bible, and our Hymns, have been found in so many instances to cheer such as

were deprived from attending the services of the sanctuary.

As a suitable reward Book for the children in Wesleyan Day and Sabbath Schools, it will be found worthy the attention of the managers of such useful institutions.

The Books and Chapters which contain the Texts, and the number of the Hymns from which the verses are selected, are given in the hope that they may lead to the frequent reading of the Bible and the Hymn Book, believing that the latter will be often found to be a comment on the former. Should the spiritual benefit of any be promoted by eating of this Manna. which came down from heaven, it will form the highest reward which the gatherer of it can obtain or desire.

Maldon, Essex, 1852.
