(An Address from the General Conference to the Members of the New Church throughout the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.)

THE annual assembly of the General Conference having brought its deliberations to a close, again issues the customary Affectionate Address." At the commencement of this Address, it is right and meet that the Divine Providence of the Lord should be recognized with humble gratitude and praise by the "members of his body," the Church. Hitherto hath the Lord helped us," (1 Sam. vii. 12.) and it becomes us to pause with thankfulness of spirit, conscious that without the Great Head of the Church, we can do nothing. However successful may have been the triumphs of truth over error, let us not glory in " our bow or spear;" but, as mere instruments, attribute the success and the glory to the Lord who gave it, and ever make the heart-felt acknowledgment,-"Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted Head over all." It is known from the Holy Word, and from the New Church writings, that the Church of the Lord on earth, and his kingdom in the heavens, make one by communication and correspondence. It is also known that the Church in the universal heaven resembles one man; and that so it is with regard to the Church on earth, every part, and every member of the body, having its specific correspondence and use. Hence, the Apostle says,-" For as we have many members
