Planet was entered for this race, but was disqualified. He was first entered correctly as brother to Plenitude, but on the evening of the day on which the stake closed (Saturday, Houghting meeting, 1844), his then owner gave a list of nominations for this and the other stakes, saying, that he had made several additions and alterations in his nominations, and that they were to stand as in the paper then delivered. In this paper the colt was entered as by Bay Middleton, out of Plenitude. The case was heard at Goodwood by Lord Stradbroke, the Duke of Beaufort, and Colonel Peel, who decided that the second nomination must be abided by, and therefore that the horse was not qualified to start.
