(A reprint from the original edition, with the same date, in double columns, containing 4 leaves for title and preliminary matter, and 186 leaves for text), red morocco extra, g.e. by Kuchler Madrid, Juan de la Cuesta, 1617 This copy belonged to Charles Nodier, in whose autograph on flyleaf stands "Edition originale si rare qu'elle n'est citée que sur le témoinage de Navarrete. Ch. N." Monsieur Nodier, however, is in error, as it is not the original edition, but a reprint or counterfeit with the same date, but so extremely rare that the existence of two editions with the same date has totally escaped the notice of Bibliographers. No copy of this counterfeit appears to have been sold by auction, which is most extraordinary, and can only be explained by the surmise that it is either of excessive rarity or that it has hitherto been sold as the original. The difference between the two editions, however, is palpable at the first glance, the original being in long lines, and the counterfeit in double columns. The original contains moreover a Dedication to the Count de Lemos from Cervantes, dated 19th April, 1616, (in which he mentions having received extreme unction on the previous day), an Epitaph on Cervantes by F. de Urbina, and a Sonetto (a el Sepulcro de M. de Cervantes) by L. F. Calderon, neither of which are in the reprint. 1165 Cervantes Saavedra (M. de) Historia de los Trabajos de Persiles 1166 Cervantes Saavedra.
