This very rare and curious work was written by Father J. Leur-
chon, a Jesuit, who sometimes wrote under the name of Van
Etten. Many of the arithmetical and other questions are very
ingenious. The work has excited attention latterly on account
of the author's description of discharging cannon by Steam, or
heated Air, instead of Gunpowder.
