3860 Harington (Sir J.) New Discourse, with Anatomie and Apologie, ack
Reprint of the first edition in the same year R. Field, 1596 This ludicrous and satirical work, combining great learning with much humour, caused the Author's banishment from the Court of Queen Elizabeth. Mr. Singer, in his reprint, states that "the extreme rarity of these once popular trifles renders it doubtful whether Swift or Sterne were acquainted with them;" and speaking of "the extraordinary rarity of copies," tells us that 66 very few complete copies are known to exist." The Metamor- phosis separately is marked £20. in the Bibliotheca Anglo- Poetica and the Apologie, which is more rare, and which Mr. Malone could never obtain, is also priced £20. therein.
