In the verses at end (Prohemium), a very important fact for the History of Paper-Making in England is mentioned, as the lines following prove beyond a doubt that "John Tate the Yonger" manufactured beautiful paper nearly a century before the time usually assigned for its first production at Dartford in Kent. "And John Tate the Yonger Joye mote he broke Whiche late hath in Englonde doo make this paper thynne This John Tate the Younger was probably the Lord Mayor of London in 1496, who was knighted for his services against the Rebels at Blackheath. The Collation of Lowndes is slightly inaccurate, as A in the first part contains 5 leaves, and not 4 as mentioned, if the title formed Ai, the next being marked A ii. Herbert, however, is of opinion that the woodcut title-page was worked on a separate leaf, and was no portion of sheet A. The printer of Lowndes has also made another slight blunder in giving the collation for instead of 76.98, it ought to have 2 6 leaves, and q 8 leaves. 3390 Glasgow Election Squibs (in Prose and Verse), collected at the 1741 3393 Gorii (A.
