Y prefuming to offer to Your Royal Highness this tranflation, is in fome measure juftified by the nature of the fubject, and reafon of the thing. For hiftory, however useful to others, is infinitely more fo to a Prince, and particularly the hiftory of that crown He is born to wear. How inftructive, as well as agreeable, muft a fair and impartial narration of the lives and actions of a long feries of predeceffors be to Him? And that fuch is the following history, originally penned by a foreigner, who had no party to ferve, or intereft to pro
