At the annual meeting one year ago there were 12 members elected besides the three reported as having paid, from whom I have received no membership fee. The proposer of these members promised at that meeting that he would hand the fees to me, but death claimed him before he had done so. Had these fees been received the Society would be entirely free from debt.

During the year I have received from the Rochester Historical Society, Vol. 1 of its publications.

Death, during the past year has made sad havoc in our membership, no less than seven members having passed away, viz: Hon. Richard Johnson of Groveland, January 26, 1892; Ezra W. Clark of Conesus; Rev. E. B. Walsworth, D. D., of Livonia; C. L. Bingham of Mt. Morris; Norman Seymour of Mt. Morris; H. C. Sedgwick of Dansville; Daniel E. Dyer of Springwater. These are names that will be recognized as belonging to men who have made their mark upon the history of their respective towns and the county at large, and some of them in yet broader fields. Memorials have been prepared under the direction of the Committee of Necrology and will be presented at the public meeting in the afternoon.

In this connection I will refer to the death of an honorary member of this Society, which occurred in 1891, of which mention was not made at our last annual meeting. I refer to Rev. F. DeW. Ward, D. D. Although Dr. Ward was not an active member of the Society, his name and work are so connected with our aim and object, that I recommend that in our annual pamphlet there be published a memorial of him to be prepared under the direction of the Committee of Necrology. All of which is respectfully submitted.

WILLIAM A. BRODIE, Secretary and Treasurer.

The report was referred to the finance committee, which subsequently presented a report approving thereof, which was adopted.

A report from the committee on publication was presented and read.

C. K. Sanders's letter to the Society presenting bound copies of the Nunda News for years 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865 and 1867, was read and his generous offer accepted with thanks.

Letters of regret for absence from Charles Shepard, Hon. William

M. White and M. H. Mills, M. D., were read. Robert Grant of Rochester, was made an honorary member.

F. Van Allen of Avon offered the following resolutions which were adopted:

Whereas, The newspaper men of Livingston County-the true recorders of its current history, have recently formed the Livingston Press Association and are co-operating with this, the Livingston County Historical Society; therefore be it

Resolved, That C. K. Sanders, its president, George M. Shull, its Secretary, and A. O. Bunnell, an honored and trusted member of this Society, be and they hereby are constituted a committee to prepare a paper setting forth the declared objects and aims, and the organization, of said Press Association; therefore, be it further

Resolved, That said paper be and it hereby is made part of the proceedings of this meeting; and our "Committee on Publication" is directed to cause the same to be printed in the "Annual" of this Society for 1893.

Mr. Van Allen also offered the following resolution which was adopted:

Whereas, Robert Boyd, tenant of Herbert Wadsworth, of Avon, while plowing in his fields in Sugarberry, June 5, 1884, discovered the teeth, tusks, and other osseous remains of a mastodon, and no suitable record has been made thereof; therefore, be it

Resolved, That the President appoint a committee of three, to which the President shall be added, to wait upon Mr. Wadsworth with a view to exhuming, preserving, and fixing a proper record, of said mastodontic remains, and report the result of their efforts to the next annual meeting.

The President appointed as committee under the last resolution, F. Van Allen, Herbert Wadsworth, and E. H, Davis.

The matter of binding such files of County papers as shall be furnished the society was referred to the committee on publication. The following officers were duly elected:
