The Assembly met, and was opened with devotional exercises.

The Minutes of preceding sessions were read and approved.

The Permanent Committee on Commissions reported the following additional Commissioners, who were duly enrolled :

Ministers--Joseph G. Snyder, of the Presbytery of Brooklyn; Samuel R. Anderson, of the Presbytery of Emporia ; C. A. R. Janvier, of the Presbytery of Allahabad; Lucius F. Badger, of the Presbytery of Mankato; Francis J. Newton, M.D., of the Presbytery of Lahore; Elders-John B. Hogue, of the Presbytery of Erie; Reuben F. Smith, of the Presbytery of Cleveland; William Bellis, of the Presbytery of New Brunswick; Egbert C. Everest, of the Presbytery of Champlain; Frank M. The Standing Committees, as compiled from the Reports of the Electing Districts, were announced by the Stated Clerk; and said Committees were instructed to meet ai 12 o'clock to-day and elect their Chairmen.

The following Committee was appointed to perfect the details of the plan for electing Standing Committees: MinistersChauncey T. Edwards, D.D., William H. Roberts, D.D., and R. M. Patterson, D.D.; Elders-Robert Laidlaw and William E. McVay.

The Roll of the Assembly was ordered to be printed.

The following changes were made in the Standing Orders of the Assembly:

The Report of the Standing Committee on Church Erection was made the Order for Tuesday afternoon, at 4 o'clock.

The Report of the Standing Committee on Education was made the Order for Monday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock.

The Report of the Standing Committee on Aid for Colleges. was made the Order for Tuesday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock.

The Report of the Standing Committee on Publication and Sabbath-school Work was made the Order for Wednesday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock.

The Report of the Standing Committee on Benevolence was made the second Order for Wednesday afternoon.

The Stated Clerk submitted in printed form, in accordance with Standing Order No. 23, the Reports of the Special Committees reporting to this Assembly, viz.: Judicial Commissions, Missionary and Benevolent Offerings, Omaha Theological Seminary, Sabbath Observance, the Digest, Editions of the Constitution, Reprinting of the Minutes, Theological Seminaries, Vacancy and Supply, Twentieth Century Fund, Assembly Herald, Young People's Work, and Revision of the Credal Statements.

The hearing and consideration of the Report of the Special Committee on Revision was made the first Order for Thursday, to be continued until said business be concluded.

The Report of the Special Committee on Judicial Commissions was made the Order for Monday afternoon, at 4 o'clock.

The Rev. Cyrus D. Foss, D.D., Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, being in the house, was invited to a seat on the platform.

The Special Committee on Missionary and Benevolent Offerings, through its Chairman, Rev. Richard S. Holmes, D.D., presented its Report, which was accepted. The first Overture proposed in the Report, together with an amendment to the same, was referred to the Standing Committee on Church Polity, and that Committee was instructed, in conference with the Special Committee, to scrutinize, and recommend action upon the Overture. The remainder of the Report was placed on the Docket.

A telegram bringing the sad intelligence of the death of Rev. Maltbie D. Babcock, D.D., at Naples, Italy, was read, and by invitation of the Moderator, Rev. George T. Purves, D.D., led the Assembly in prayer.

It was made the Order of the Day for Tuesday morning, at 9.45 o'clock, to hear Rev. John Fox, D.D., Secretary of the Ameri can Bible Society, in behalf of the work of that Society.

The Assembly adjourned until Monday, at 9 o'clock, and was closed with prayer.

Popular meetings were held, at 3 P.M., in the Academy of Music, for the Board of Publication and Sabbath-school Work, and at 8 P.M., in Witherspoon Hall, for the Board of Aid for Colleges and the Woman's Board of Home Missions.
