و سکان آن دیار را پاي مال دست غارت ساخت قیدیان و بندیان را بضرب توپ بنهاد و اهالیان را بتاراج داد منجمله اجل گرفتگان شخصی بود چابل نام که با کپتان ،الجابون، رابطه التحاد و واسطه و داد میداشت دل کپتان بر حال زارش بسوخت هرچند دست و پازد اما رهائیش از پنجه اجل میسر نشد نشد و چندانکه سعی کرد لیکن خلاصیش از دست مرگ نه دید ناچار دوش بدوش یار و هم آغوش غمگسار گردیده نظر قهر برآتش انداز انداخت و گفت هرچه زودتر سرکن شاه ازین واقعه ناگاه منغص شد و گرمیش مايل بسردی گردید و بر همت و جان نثاریش تحسین و آفرین فرمود و شکا راجل را از چنگل عقاب مرگ نجات بخشید

SOME years since, a counsellor Vansittart went the Oxford circuit, and that eminent and facetious counsel, Mr. Bearcroft, went the same circuit. Mr. Bearcroft one day, in his usual droll manner, told Vansittart he thought his name was rather too long, and tedious to pronounce: "Suppose, for shortness, we agree to call you Van, and leave out sittart."-"With all my heart," says Vansittart, "if you'll do the same-strike off the croft, and let us call you Bear."

ANECDOTE OF AN ALGERINE CAPTAIN.

DURING the bombardment of Algiers by the Marquis du Quesne, the inhabitants carried their cruelty to such a pitch, as to tie the French prisoners alive to the mouth of their cannon. A French officer, named Choiseul, and friend to an Algerine captain, was bound to the mouth of the cannon, when the captain, being present, soon recognised him. He instantly solicited his friend's pardon: but not being able to obtain it, he darted upon the executioners, and three times rescued Choiseul. At length, At length, finding all his efforts useless, he fastened himself to the mouth of the same cannon-entangled himself in Choiseul's chains-tenderly and closely embraced him—and addressed

یکی از تاجداران فرانسیس کوتاه قد بود بجلیه کیاست آراسته و بزیور فراست پیراسته اعیان حضرت بركوتاهي قامتش زبان نا شایسته میفرسودند و دهان بیهوده میشودند ملک را طرفی از هزیان سرائي آنها معلوم شد از روی غضب خواست که هر یکی را بسزای اعمال رساند لیکن خرد خرده بینش و عقل دوراندیشش رخصت نداد دست سکون در پیش بنهاد و موقوف بروقت داشته متعرض نگردید پس از مدتي تماشاي سير در سرش پیچید شیر پرایله کردند و گاوي را بروگذاشتند تماشیان امصار و ارکان در بار جمع گردیدند و نظاره میکردند همینکه شیر خونخوار گاوبیچاره را زیر وزبر کرد و برپشتش برآمد و میخواست که چنگل در گردنش بیفشارد و کار آن گرفتار تمام سازد در خاطر خطیر حضرت خطور کرد که به ازیی و قتي میسر نخواهد شد باید که آئینه بصیرت در پیش چشم این کوز با طنان نهاده شود و سرمه بینائی در دیده این نابینایان کشیده آید فرمود کیست که این ظالم خونخوار را از خون ریزی آن مظلوم بیچاره باز دارد و از چنگل این اجل ناگهان رها سازد کسي را يا راي دم زدن نبود و ز هره آن نداشت که بویی کار اقدام نماید چون دید که کسی قدم جرات پیش نمی نهد و همگی بر خود میلرزند خود بنفس نفیس برخاست و بيك ضرب شمشیر شیر را مثل خیار در نیم ساخت و برخاك عدم انداخت و آن اجل گرفتار را رهائي
