III. How does it appear to be a Sin, not to glorify GOD as GOD?

1. GOD here accuses the Gentiles of it, and blames them for it.

2. Not to glorify GOD as GOD, is, not to glorify Him at all.

IV. Who are guilty of this Sin?

1. Such as do not acknowledge there is a GOD, Pfal. xiv. 1.

2. Such as do not know the GOD they acknowledge.

3. Such as do know Him, but do not glo̟-
rify Him.

4. Such as do glorify Him, as they think,
but not as GOD: And they are,
1. Such as have not right Apprehenfions
of Him;

2. That have not right Affections for Him;
3. That do not perform right Worship
and Obedience to Him.

But you do not live up to this Knowledge; and therefore not glorify Him as GOD.

3. Humble yourselves for your Guilt of it: 4. Reform it.

Confider,

1. The Glory of GOD is the first Thing that ought to be prayed for, S. Matt. vi. 9.

2. Confider the fearful Judgments inflicted upon those who were guilty of it, Act xii. 23. Rom. i. 24.

3. Confider the dreadful Curfes denounced againft fuch as do not glorify Him, Mal. ii. 2.

4. Unless you glorify GOD as GOD, your Religion is in vain.

5. You all know how to glorify Him.

6. To glorify GOD, is itself the Glory of Heaven.

7. Do you glorify Him here, and He will glorify you hereafter, i Sam. ii. 30.

II. DOCTRINE.

It is a great Sin, not to be thankful to GOD. 1. What is it to thank GOD? It implies, 1. AnAcknowledgment, that what we have, comes from Him, Pfal. ciii. 1, 2. 2. Confeffion, that we are unworthy of it, Gen. xxxii. 10.

5. For whatsoever Evil we have not.

2. The Unthankful are reckoned amongst the greatest of Sinners.

3. GOD is pleased to punish feverely fuch as are guilty of it.

4. It is robbing GOD of His Glory.

USE.

1. Reproof to all; efpecially fuch as ufe GOD's Creatures without giving Him Thanks for them, S. Mark viii. 6. xiv. 23. Att xxvii. 35. 1 Tim. iv, 3, 4.

3. Be thankful. Confider,

1. It is all GOD requires, Pfal. Ixix. 30.
2. It is no more than every one of you
may do.

3. The more thankful we are to GOD, the
more bountiful will He be to us.

5. A truly thankful Heart, is a good Evi
dence of Sincerity.

6. To thank GOD, will be our Happiness to Eternity, and therefore fhould be our Bufinefs in Time, Revel. iv. 9. vii. 12.

HRIST was delivered for our Offences.

3. What for? Our Offences.

1. All Men are guilty, Pfal. xiv. 3. Gal. iiì.

2. This Guilt cannot be taken away, but by fatisfying GOD's Juftice, Hebr. ix. 22. 3. No Creature can fatisfy it, Pfal. xlix. 7, 8.

4. Hence Chrift undertook it, 1 Tim. ii. 5. 5. Neither could He do it but by Suffering, Hebr. ix. 22. S. Matth. xx. 28. 1 Tim.

ii. 6.

6. No Suffering would ferve the turn but Death, and that on the Crofs.

7. By His Death He hath fatisfy'd for our Offences, 1 S. Joh. ii. 2. Rom. iii. 25. Rev. i. 5.

8. Hence our Sins came to be pardoned; and fo He being delivered for, we are delivered from, our Offences.
