IN this HOSPITAL a portion of the beds is set apart for Clinical Instruction by the Professors of the University of Edinburgh. Courses of Clinical Medicine and Surgery are also given by the Ordinary Physicians and Surgeons. Special Instruction is given in the Medical Department on Diseases of Women, Physical Diagnosis, &c., and in the Surgical Department on Diseases of the Eye. Separate Wards are devoted to Fever, Small-pox, Venereal Diseases, Diseases of Women, Diseases of the Eye; also, to cases of Incidental Delirium or Insanity. Post-mortem Examinations are conducted in the Anatomical Theatre by the Pathologist, who also gives practical instruction in Pathological Anatomy and Histology.

HOSPITAL Tickets.-Perpetual, in One Payment, 10; Annual, £5, 5s. ; Half-yearly, £3, 35.; Quarterly, I, IIS. 6d. Separate Payments for Two Years entitle the Student to a Perpetual Ticket.

APPOINTMENTS.

No Fees are payable for any Medical or Surgical Appointment in this Hospital. The Subordinate Appointments are made by the Physicians and Surgeons, or, on their recommendation, by the Managers; and they are open to all Students and Junior Practitioners holding the Hospital Ticket during the period over which the appointment extends. These appointments are as follows:

1. FOUR RESIDENT PHYSICIANS and FOUR RESIDENT SURGEONS are from time to time appointed by the Managers, on the recommendation of the Physicians and Surgeons. The holder of these offices, live in the House free of charge. Candidates must be legally qualified to practise. The appointment is for six months, but may be renewed at the end of that period by special recommendation.

2. NON-RESIDENT CLINICAL CLERKS are appointed by the Physicians and Surgeons, for such periods and under such conditions as they deem expedient.

3. DRESSERSHIPS. Each Surgeon appoints from Four to Nine Dressers, the appointment being for Six Months.

4. ASSISTANTS in the PATHOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT are appointed by the Pathologist.

Every Student must be in attendance on one or more classes of the University, the fees for which do not exceed £3, 3s. for any one class.

Applications for admission must be made through the Treasurer.

DR HANDYSIDE'S

Course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh—

Qualifying for all the Universities and Public Boards-is as follows:PRACTICAL ANATOMY (on 1st October) from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M., including Instruction throughout the day by Dr Handyside, assisted by Dr Sinclair, Surgeon, two Sub-Demonstrators, and three Annual Prosectors.

LECTURES. (Systematic Anatomy) on 3d November at 1 o'clock-including (1) the practice and application of the Microscope in recognising the Structure and Stages of Development of the several Tissues of the Human Body; (2) Tutorial Classes for Elementary instruction; (3) Weekly (oral) and Monthly (written) Competitive Examinations.

DEMONSTRATIONS AND WEEKLY PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS.-(Regional Anatomy) on 3d November at 4 o'clock-when the various Structures and Organs of the Body in their relative position to each other are displayed; they are next viewed in their practical relations to Surgery and Medicine; after which Weekly (oral) Competitive Examinations upon these dissected parts are held within the Theatre by Dr Handyside.

Dr H.'s SUMMER COURSE embraces Elementary Anatomy, Microscopic Anatomy, Practical Anatomy, Anatomical Demonstrations, and Weekly (oral) Practical Examinations upon the dissected parts.
