B

TENTH SELECTION

Blessed are They

LESSED is the man who walketh not
in the counsel of the ungodly,

But whose delight is in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are they whose ways are pure:
Who walk in the path of His commandments.
Blessed are they who keep his statutes,
And who seek Him with all their heart.
Blessed are they who regard justice,
And who practise righteousness at all times.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord
imputeth not iniquity,

And in whose spirit there is no guile.
Blessed is he that considereth the poor,
The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
Blessed is the man whose strength is in
Thee, O Lord,

In whose heart are Thy ways.

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest and causeth to approach unto Thee.

In Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

[ocr errors]

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are the poor in spirit.

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are they that mourn.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth:

And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. For the Lord giveth power to the faint and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy,

And the Lord in His mercy shall forgive them their iniquities.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Yea; they shall stand in the Holy place of the Lord, and abide in the tabernacle of the Almighty. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they: for, because of their works, shall the earth rejoice, and the nations shall be as one people.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they; for their affliction hath wrought in them a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory and their names are written among the redeemed. Worthy are they to receive honor, and wisdom, and power, forever and ever. Amen.

ELEVENTH SELECTION

Righteousness and Peace

NATION SHALL NOT LIFT UP SWORD AGAINST

TH

NATION

HE Lord our God hath prepared His throne for judgment. It is He who reigneth over all the earth.

And He will judge the world in righteousness and minister judgment to the people.

He will bring forth justice to the nations; He will bring forth mercy and truth.

The Lord will not fail nor faint till He have set justice in the earth; until He have burst the cruel yoke asunder, and given liberty to the captive and to them that are oppressed.

O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us what deeds Thou didst in their day, how Thou didst guide Thy people across the sea:

And didst lead them into a land which they should forever receive as an inheritance.

Not by their swords obtained they the land, nor did their own strength gain them the victory,

But by Thy right hand and Thine arm because Thou hadst favor unto them.

When they were yet very few in number, very few and strangers in the land:

When they were wandering in the wilderness and found no city to dwell in:

When they were hungry and thirsty and their souls grew faint within them:

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them out of all their distresses.

In righteousness and peace hath He called us and set us as a great light among the

nations.

And in the need of the times that are and shall be, the Lord, the Eternal, shall be our help and that of all generations.

Pray for the peace of our land; let all the people say peace be within thee, And prosperity within thy borders.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say this whom he hath redeemed from many lands, And called from the East and from the West; from the North and from the South.
