gregation, to join together this Man and tiris Woman in holy Matrimony ; which is an honourable eltate, inliituted of God in the time of inan's innocency, lignitying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Chrit and his Church : which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and first miracle that he wrought in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of St. Paul to be honourable among all men, and therefore is not by any to be enterprised, nor taken in hand unadvisedly, lightly drwantonly, to satisfy men's carnal luits and appetites, like brute beasts that have no understanding, but reverently, oiscreetly, advisedly, foberly, and in the rear of God ; duly considering the causes for which Matrimony was ordained.

First, it was ordained for the procreation of children', to be brought up in the tear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of his holy Name.

Secondly, it was ordained for a remedy against fin, and to avoid fornication, that such persons as have got the gift of continency, might'marry, and keep themselves undefiled members of Chr it's body,

Thirdly, it was ordained for the mutual society, help and comfort that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adverfity. :

Saint Paul in his Epifle to the Ephesians, the fifth Chapter, deth give this commandment to all married men, Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water, by the word ; that he inight present it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing ; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies : he that loveth his wife, lovech himself.
