may make such rules and regulations will insure the objects of said reservations, namely, to regulate their occupancy and use and to preserve the forests thereon from destruction; and any violation of this act or such rules and regulations shall be punished (by $500 fine or twelve months' imprisonment, or both) as is provided for in the act of June fourth, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, amending section fifty-three hundred and eighty-eight of the Revised Statutes of the United States. (Act of June 4, 1897, 34 Stat., 35.)

In this edition, which has been prepared especially for Forest users, those regulations affecting only Forest officers and not of interest to the public have been omitted.

The accompanying regulations have, under authority conferred by law upon the Secretary of Agriculture, already been approved, to take effect at different times, and all previous regulations in conflict with them revoked.
