[The first edition of the Bible in English: excessively rare in any condition, and of which no perfect copy is known. This copy had the following defects :-Title; first two leaves of the Dedication to Henry VIII., the contents of Genesis, folio ii., map and last three leaves, in facsimile; the margins of 17 leaves mended, and in some cases a few letters at the side of the page restored in facsimile. Catalogue. The Ashburnham copy (see BOOKPRICES CURRENT, vol. xi., No. 4475) is one of the best known, though it ranks but third in quality. The Osterley and Leicester copies are, on the whole, superior.-ED.] 4312 Gilbert (W. S.)
