Bible Jewels: or Comfort for the Believer.

"Just as I am! without one plea,

But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bid'st me come to Thee,-
O! Lamb of God! I come!

Just as I am! And waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,-

To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,-
O! Lamb of God! I come!

Just as I am! Thou wilt receive,

Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve !-
Because Thy promise I believe !

O! Lamb of God! I come! "

PRAYER.

BIBLE JEWELS; OR COMFORT FOR THE BELIEVER.

O, Almighty and most merciful Father! We thank Thee for the privileges we enjoy. Thou didst send Thy Son, Thine only Son, to be the propitiation for our sins. We thank Thee, Lord, that Jesus died and rose again; and that He is even now at Thy right hand, ever living to make intercession for us. Blessed Saviour! we thank Thee; we praise and bless Thee for THAT OFFERING, for that one sacrifice for sin by which Thou hast perfected for ever them that are sanctified. We thank Thee that Thou has gone to prepare a place for us in Thy Father's House of many mansions; that, were Thou art, there we may be also. O, gracious God, we thank Thee for Thy merciful declaration that the blood of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, cleanseth from all sin. We thank Thee that we have been redeemed with the precious blood of Christ: we bless Thee that there is, now, no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. AMEN.

CHAPTER VI.

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS THROUGH OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR,

I.

JESUS CHRIST.

1. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.-1 Timothy, i., 15.

2. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.—Rom., iii., 23,

3. And God commended His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.—Much more, then, being now justified by His blood. we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son ;much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.-Romans v., 8, 10.

4. If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous; and He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.-1 John, ii., 1, 2.

5. Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.-Romans, v., I. 6. For the Son of Man is come to save that which was lost. Matthew xviii., II.

7. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.-Acts xvi., 31.

8. Christ gave

Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father-Gal., 1, 4.

9. He that spared not HIS OWN SON, but delivered Him up for us all,-how shall He not, with Him also, freely give us all things.-Romans, viii., 32.

IO. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life.-1 John, v., 13.

II. Jesus saith,....

I am The Way, The Truth, and

The Forgiveness of Sins through our Lord and Saviour.

The Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME-John xiv., 6.

12. Verily, verily, I say unto you,-whatsoever ye shall ask THE FATHER IN MY NAME, He will give it to you.... Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.John xvi., 23, 24.

13. And whatsoever ye shall ask IN MY NAME, that will I do, that The Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in My name, I WILL DO IT.-John xiv., 13, 14.

14.

And we have seen, and do testify, that The Father sent The Son to be the Saviour of the world....I John, iv., 14.

15. In whom we have redemption through His blood, -even the forgiveness of sins.-Col., 1, 14: and Ephes., I, 7.

16. The law was given by Moses; but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.-John, 1, 17, 18.

17. A man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ:......for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.-Galatians, ii., 16.

18. That no man is justified by the law, in the sight of God, it is evident; for, the just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith.-Galatians, iii., 11, 12.

19. If righteousness come by the law, THEN CHRIST IS DEAD IN VAIN.—Galatians, ii. 21.

20. Christ died for all, that they which live, should not, henceforth, live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.—2 Cor., v., 15.

21.

Who, HIS OWN SELF, bore our sins, in HIS OWN BODY, on the tree; that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.I Peter, ii., 24.

22. Thus God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them:..... For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. -2 Cor., v., 19 and 21.

23. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.-John iii., 16.

The Forgiveness of Sins through our Lord and Saviour.

24. There is, therefore, no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.-Romans viii., 1.

25. For, if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.-1 Thess., iv., 14.

"Jesu! the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest!

O! hope of every contrite heart!
O! joy of all the meek !——

To those who fall, how kind Thou art!
How good to those who seek!

Jesu! our only joy be Thou,
As Thou our prize wilt be;
Jesu! be Thou our glory now,
And through eternity."

PRAYER.

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS THROUGH OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.

Almighty God, our most merciful and loving Father, who spared. not Thine Own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, we come to Thee, pleading no merits of our own, but only the merits of Jesus Christ. We bless Thee for Thy Word which tells us that, although we have sinned and come short of the glory of God, if we believe on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved. Oh! may Thy Spirit ever enable us to come to Thee, only in the Name of Jesus Christ, that we may know that we have Eternal Life. O, help us to look to Christ and live. O, help us to look for justification to Jesus, the Saviour of the world. Help us to depend on Him alone for salvation.

And, oh! blessed Jesus! Thou Advocate with The Father!— may we live henceforth unto Thee. Lord! keep us near Thy side in this life, that, in death and in judgment, we may be Thine for ever, world without end. Amen.
