The Judgment.

What power shall be the sinner's stay?—
How shall he meet that dreadful day

"When, shrivelling like a parched scroll,
The flaming heavens together roll;
When louder yet, and yet more dread,
Swells the high trump that wakes the dead!

"Oh! on that day-that wrathful day!
When man to judgment wakes from clay!
Be thou, O Christ, the sinner's stay,
Though heaven and earth shall pass away."

Sir W. Scott.

PRAYER.

THE CERTAINTY OF A FUTURE JUDGMENT. CHRIST THE JUDGE OF THE QUICK AND THE DEAD.

Blessed Jesus! to whom all power is given in Heaven and on earth, we know that we shall stand before Thy Throne at that awful day when Thou shall judge the secrets of men. Enable us, blessed Saviour, to make our peace with God. Our many sins we cast on Thee, our precious Saviour. Thou hast made atonement for sins of every name,-of every dye. Thy Blood cleanseth from all sin. We trust not in our own strength, but in Thee alone. We cast ourselves and our sins solely and wholly upon Thee. Lord, we would consecrate ourselves to Thy service. We ask Thee, blessed 'Saviour, to be ours, from this time forth and for ever. We trust in Thee: we cling to Thee, the living Redeemer, who art ever able, ever ready to help the contrite and the penitent. And, O Lord, grant that, when we come to die, we may rejoice, indeed, and in truth, in a living Christ, a present Saviour.

CHAPTER IV.

BIBLE WARNINGS.

Thou believest that there is one God: thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.—James ii., 19. 2. Not everyone that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in Heaven -Matt. vii., 21.

3. Be not deceived: God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.-Gal. vi., 7.

4. For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.-Rom. i., 18.

5. Whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father, with the holy angels.-Mark viii., 38.

6. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 1 John ii., 23.

7. The Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His Kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.—Matt. xiii., 41, 42.

8. The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out, without mixture, into the cup of His indignation.--Rev. xiv., 10.

9. Be ye, therefore, ready, for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not--Luke xii., 49.

10. It is appointed unto men once to die,-but, after this, THE JUDGMENT.-Heb. ix., 27.

II.

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened.... .....and they

Bible Warnings.

Strive to enter in at the straight gate, for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.Luke xiii., 24.

13. Love not the world,-neither the things that are in the world: if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him: for all that is in the world,-the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.-1 John, ii., 15, 16.

go not

14. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and in the way of evil men. Avoid it; pass not by it: turn from it, and pass away.-Prov. iv., 14, 15.

15. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye, through the spirit, do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.-Rom. viii., 13.

16. What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?-Mark viii., 36, 37.

17. To be carnally minded is death.- Rom. viii., 6. 18. The Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.-Psalm i., 6.

19. If we sin wilfully, after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law, died without mercy under two or three witnesses: of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the spirit of grace?-Heb. x., 26-29.

20.

God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world, through Him, might be saved. John iii., 17.

21. All men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father which hath sent Him.-John v., 23.

22. Search the Scriptures. They are they which testify of Me.-John v., 39.

Bibl Warnings.

"Sun of my soul! Thou Saviour dear!
It is not night if Thou be near ;
Oh! may no earth-born cloud arise
To hide Thee from Thy servant's eyes!

Abide with me from morn till eve;
For without Thee I cannot live:
Abide with me when night is nigh;
For without Thee I dare not die.

Come near, and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take ;
Till, in the ocean of Thy love,

We lose ourselves in Heaven above."

PRAYER.

BIBLE WARNINGS; OR, ROCKS AHEAD.

O, Lord of Hosts, Who art worshipped by all the inhabitants of Heaven, follow with Thy blessing the reading of Thy word, and impress upon our hearts the solemn warnings which it contains. Thy wrath, O great and eternal God, is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. Thou hast appointed unto men once to die,-but, after this, the judgment, when we shall be judged according to our works. Thou hast told us that, in that day, Thy Son shall send forth His angels; and that they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which have done iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire, where shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. But, eternal thanks be unto Thee, O God, Thou hast told us, also, that, if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved. Thou hast warned us, that we can lay no other foundation than that which Thou, Thyself hast laid, which is JESUS CHRIST. AMEN.
