CHAPTER II.

THE IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL :

THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY: LIFE ETERNAL.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth,-they that have done good unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation.-John v., 28, 29.

2. Behold, I shew you a mystery: we shall not all sleep; but we shall be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.I Cor. xv., 51-53.

3. There shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust.-Acts xxiv., 15.

4. Now, that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he called the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For He is not a God of the dead, but of the living, for all live unto Him.-Luke xx., 37, 38.

5. The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised.-1 Cor. xv., 52.

6. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,-some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.-Daniel xii., 2.

7. The Lord Jesus Christ shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself. Phil. iii., 20, 21.

8. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.-1 John, iii., 2.

9. Jesus said,-I am the Resurrection and the Life: he

Resurrection of the Body: Life Eternal.

that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. John xi,, 25, 26.

10. This is the will of Him that sent Me, that everyone that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have Everlasting Life; and I will raise him up at the last day.— John vi., 40.

II. Father, I will that they also whom Thou hast given Me be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which Thou hast given Me, for Thou lovest Me before the foundation of the world.-John xvii., 24.

12. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which, according to His abundant mercy, hath begotten us again unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away.-1 Peter i., 3, 4.

13. We know that, if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.-2 Cor. V., I.

14. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.-2 Timothy iv., 7.

15. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.-2 Timothy iv.,

8.

When the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory, that fadeth not away—I Peter V., 4.

17. I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction.-Hosea, xiii., 14.

18. Thanks be to God who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.—1 Cor. xv., 57.

"We know that, when the soul, unclothed,

Shall from this body fly,

'Twill animate a purer frame

With life that cannot die.

Resurrection of the Body: Life Eternal.

"A few short years of evil past,
We reach the happy shore,

Where death-divided friends, at last,

Shall meet to part no more.

"In mercy, Jesus, bring us

To that dear land of rest,

Where Thou art, with the Father
And Spirit, ever blest."

PRAYER.

THE IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL. THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY. LIFE ETERNAL.

O God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life, and in whom whosoever liveth and believeth shall never die ; grant that, when the trumpet shall sound, and the dead be raised, we may awake to everlasting glory,-to eternal life. Grant, blessed Lord, that, when the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and when these bodies of ours shall rise from their kindred dust, we may have a place in the resurrection of the just,—an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away. Grant, Lord, that, when we have finished our course, and when our earthly house of this. tabernacle shall be dissolved, we may have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

AMEN.
