[The above volume, with the plates coloured by hand throughout, is apparently unique in this state. The colouring, which is remarkably fresh, has been executed with the utmost care, and the effect in many cases is extremely fine. It is in spotless condition, and in the original half russia, with uncut edges. The label on the side of the volume shows it to have been published (coloured) at one hundred guineas.- Catalogue.]

[There were, as originally published, six uncovered plates, those above mentioned being of frequent occurrence. The others are (3) Les Lunettes, (4) Le Bât, (5) “Le Rossignol," (6) "Richard Minutolo." These plates, the fourth especially, are extremely rare. Eisen's portrait is generally inferior, having been engraved on thin copper. No fewer than 24 plates prepared for this edition were rejected by the Société d'Amateurs for various reasons.
