IV.

To add the Table of Contents of the preceding number of every Review, thus enabling the public to ascertain at one view what has been noticed. This will be found particularly convenient for all those, who have not direct recourse to extensive libraries, where indeed every periodical Publication is not to be found; by the want of which many persons are ignorant of the review of their works. Thus instead of being a rival, this will be an Index and a Supplement to the established Reviews.

As it is intended to state what other Works each Author has Published, or Edited, it is requested that a list of the Author's other Works be sent with the Book to be noticed.

Prospectuses of Works in hand will be admitted into the body of THE NEW REVIEW at a moderate charge-and Advertisements of Books will be admitted on the covers of each Number.

To prevent omissions, and an expense proportioned to the universality of the Notices, it is hoped that a copy of EVERY Book will be lent to the Editor, to the care of Mr. A. J. Valpy, Tooke's Court, Chancery Lane, London, at whose Press the THE NEW REVIEW will be printed.

*** Every Number will not contain an equal number of pages with the present--but the size will be proportioned to the press of the matter. The two or three first Numbers will contain an account of many popular works published in 1812, after which books published SINCE the year 1812 will be alone noticed.

No list of Books Published is given at the end, as they will ALL be analysed in the Review.

THIS Number has been enlarged beyond the size intended, that we might fulfil our promise to several authors. The following Works will have an early in

sertion:

CORRESPONDENCE.

We are obliged to our friend F. for his observations, and are flattered by any commendation from so high a quarter.-Mr. Bellamy will speak for himself relative to the Banishment of Cain, in the present No.

F. W. has our best thanks. We wish that he, and many others, would be less scrupulous of giving their names, as we may often wish to improve our acquaintance with them. F. W's advice is good; and we request that he will allow us to make further use of his observations.

X. A. X's remark is admitted; but if he would give us his address, we could offer him a sufficient reason for having deserved his allusion. The present No. will, we hope, partly satisfy him.

ERASTUS obligingly offers us the use of his letter, which shall not be overlooked. We should be happy to adopt his A and C plan; but it is our chief wish to avoid creating any jealousy among our contemporaries.-E. shall, however, hear from us.

R. S's observations on Lord G. Grenville's Defence are just-but we should add that all Defences are written by the Authors themselves, though their names may not be affixed. R. S. will find that Mr. T. has given the reference in his Dictionary.

We trust that our friend in Wales will experience no more difficulty in pro- . curing The New Review regularly-should this, however, be the case, a line addressed to the care of Mr. Valpy shall remedy the complaint.
